Through October 2, 2016, the public will have the chance to see first-hand works by one of the greatest contemporary portrait painters, Everett Raymond Kinstler.  In the exhibition Everett Raymond Kinstler: Journeys West and Beyond, the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia, presents a unique look at Kinstler's Western subjects, including nearly 40 works spanning more than six decades.

Collection of the artist.

With more than 2,500 portraits to his credit, Kinstler is best known for having painted seven U.S. Presidents, more than 50 cabinet members, and many of the brightest stars in business and the entertainment industry.  (Read more about Kinstler's Hollywood portraits in our blog post here.)  Yet his career began practicing a very different type of art--doing illustrations for Western pulp magazines and novels.  Featuring comic illustrations, landscapes, and portraits of Western personalities like John Wayne and Roy Rogers, the retrospective illustrates Kinstler's significance in the creation of the identity and romance of the "American cowboy" and in shaping our understanding of the West in the American cultural imagination.
