Former Homeland Security Secretary Portrait Unveiled

Last month, Portraits, Inc. Executive Partner, Julia Baughman, traveled to Washington D.C. for the unveiling of the official portrait of the nation’s first Homeland Security Secretary, Tom Ridge.

Ridge commissioned Portraits, Inc. artist, Robert Anderson, to paint his portrait. Anderson has also painted a portrait of George W. Bush that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery and a portrait of former Federal Reserve Chair, Alan Greenspan.

At the unveiling ceremony, Anderson spoke about his goals for painting Ridge’s portrait, saying “My task was to integrate the dignity and gravitas of the office he shaped and held at a critical time in our nation’s history.”

In the wake of 9/11, Ridge led the effort to consolidate 22 different departments into one to safe guard America. His portrait will hang on the same floor as the Homeland Security Secretary office to offer a reminder of the starting point for successors and others who visit the office.
