If you missed "Manet: Portraying Life" at the Toledo (Ohio) Museum of Art last fall, the show opened January 26, 2013 at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and will run through April 14.
The exhibit features 50 portraits by French painter Édouard Manet. It’s the first ever retrospective devoted to the portraiture of enigmatic and sometimes controversial Manet and features works that span his entire career, including those from Europe, Asia and the USA.
While portraiture constitutes about half of Manet’s artistic output, this is the first time these works have been explored in exhibit form. Manet painted his family, friends and the literary, political and artistic figures of his day, including Claude Monet and his wife.
