Hurricane Sandy's tempestuous tantrum disrupted life for many people on the East Coast last November. She even managed to invade the art world.
After commissioning and completing a portrait of the four grandchildren of a Portraits Inc. patron, I made a coast to coast trip a week before Thanksgiving to track down the large 50” x 60” painting. It had disappeared into the shipping docks of Newark, New Jersey without a trace.
Communication lines and emails between carriers had been interrupted, but after countless phone calls and 12 hours of searching through what looked like a scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the painting was finally located. It was in perfect condition and ready to be taken to its owner.
I was so happy to finally be able to deliver the oil on linen portrait to its new home and see it installed.
One of the young girls who was a subject in the portrait was awaiting its arrival and is also a budding artist. I loved getting the opportunity to take a look through her portfolio and offer encouragement. I left her my painter’s palette for more inspiration.
Maybe one day she will be added to Portraits Inc. roster of artists!
